The new exhibit “Life of Verna” celebrates the life of Verna Keays Keyes, Buffalo, Wyoming native and designer of the Wyoming State Flag. The artifacts, pictures, and labels highlight her art career, her world travels, and her life.
Verna was encouraged to pursue her artistic talents by her family and attended the Art Institute of Chicago. Shortly after graduating and returning to Buffalo, she won the right to call herself “Wyoming’s Betsy Ross” when her design was chosen as the winner in a Daughters of the American Revolution state flag contest. Later, after her marriage, she became active in politics and the Girl Scouts and continued to pursue her interests in art and traveling.
